Technical Requirements
Staff will be happy to help if you have any questions.
1. Record one minute of black before and after your program.
This is a marker to ensure that your program airs in its entirety.
One minute |
PROGRAM + ENDSLATE |
One minute |
Total Running Time (TRT) |
2) Make sure there are no timecode breaks on the tape
To ensure accurate playback, timecode must be continuous throughout your program without timecode breaks anywhere on the tape. For example, if the time code on the tape jumps from 00:05:40:00 back to 00:01:00:00 at the beginning of your tape, our playback equipment will not be able to find the correct start time of your program. During normal playback, timecode must always go forward, never frozen and never backward.
3) Keep minimum audio above –30 dB and maximum audio below -12dB
To ensure your audience is able to hear your program, make sure the audio level of your show is above –30 dB and below –12 dB.
Example: -00 -30 -25 -20 -16 -12 -8 -4 0
____________CH 1: - minimum
_________________________CH 2: - maximum
4) Mix audio down to channel 2 only.
5) If any ‘Ōlelo resources have been used in the production of your program, a credit at the end of your program should read:
Facilities provided by ‘Ōlelo Community Media.
6) Fill out all information requested on the tape labels (available at every CMC) thoroughly and insert the label in the tape case. Incomplete information on the tape label could cause a delay in processing your program.
7) Write all airdates specific to this program on the tape label.
For example, if your weekly series program airs every Monday, the airdates to be listed should be all the following Mondays for that month. For example, all the Mondays in June are 6/2, 6/9, 6/16, 6/23, 6/30. If your program is a special or non-series program and you requested advanced airdates, please list those scheduled dates on the tape label.
8) Write the IN and OUT points of your show on the tape label.
Complete timecode includes all four sets of the two digit numbers. For example, write: 01:22:03:15 rather than 1:22:03 so that it is clear which digits are hours, minutes, seconds and frames.
HR MIN SEC FRAMES 01: 22: 03: 15 |
8) Write the Total Running Time (TRT) of your program on the tape label.
The TRT equals your OUT point minus your IN point. If you are uncertain about timing your tape or determining your TRT, staff at any CMC can assist you.
9) Include an endslate.
The endslate is a requirement and must appear at the end of every program longer than 1 minute. The endslate must appear onscreen long enough to be read by a viewer and must include:
The name, telephone number or mailing address of the Producer or Presenter or Organization responsible for the content of the program. An e-mail address may be included in addition to, but not in place of, a phone number or mailing address.
10) Submit the tape with proper paperwork.
A Playback Request Form is needed for programs over 15 minutes.
A Server Request Form is needed with programs 15 minutes or less.
