‘Ōlelo at Children & Youth Day 2017

In 1994, the Hawai‘i State Legislature and Governor Waihee established Children and Youth Day (CYD) in Hawai‘i as the first Sunday of every October to celebrate and honor our children and youth and the special contributions they make to our community. After much community discussion, Act 30 of 1997 was passed to dedicate the entire month of October as Children and Youth Month in Hawai‘i. (http://www.hawaiicyd.org/)

‘Ōlelo has been a proud participant in Children & Youth Day for several years, providing the official video coverage of the Capitol rotunda program. This year, we took it up a notch. On top of covering the all-day speeches and performances happening at the rotunda, ‘Ōlelo also hosted a tent at the event’s “Teen Zone”, which offered event participants a chance to discover the magic of green screen. Children and adults alike had a blast playing with the technology. Meanwhile, teams of student video crews roamed the Capitol grounds gathering on-camera interviews with the various community organizations and event patrons.
