‘Ōlelo Receives National Recognition

In an effort to build capacity for the future, ‘Ōlelo’s Communications Department produces promotional videos ranging from client Empower Stories to  promotional spots  to behind-the-scenes mini documentaries.  Additionally, signature programs like the Island Focus and Live at the Legislature series are produced to showcase inspiring community leaders and the impact their work has on our island state. The purpose of these promotional videos and signature productions is to bring more awareness to the suite of services we offer, and to the overall content of our community access channels, that display the great work our clients, volunteers, and producers are doing for the community.

‘Ōlelo recently attended a conference for the Alliance for Community Media (ACM), which represents “over 3,000 Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access organizations and community media center throughout the country. The ACM works to protect the interests of these access centers and those who use PEG facilities and equipment to advance their causes through cable television and the Internet.” (http://www.allcommunitymedia.org/about-us)

Youth Capitol Commentary 2017
Winner – Community Event

Over two decades ago, Youth Capitol Commentary was started to give youth training to videotape legislators from their districts.  It now provides this opportunity annually on opening day of the legislature.  Students get to discuss the issues that affect their community with lawmakers, advocacy groups, and community members.  Students conduct over 100 interviews which are all cablecast on ‘Ōlelo’s channels and made available on ‘ŌleloNet.  Youth Capitol Commentary is part of ‘Ōlelo’s continuing effort to provide students with a sense of civic engagement and insight into the legislative process via community media.
